Day Fourteen

Day Fourteen

Focus: Bridge, Setu Bandha Sarvangasana

Reading: Practice D of One Simple Thing (only a few pages today!)

Mouth: The Yoga Bible (pages 260-264)

Anatomy: The Yoga Anatomy Coloring Book, Pose by Pose (pages 106 & 107)

Instructions:

Welcome to your last day of the two week preparation challenge. Congrats! I hope you feel that your understanding of cueing, anatomy and the philosophy of yoga has deepened.

  1. Read Practice D of One Simple Thing. Give it a try!

  2. Then, color page 106 & 107 of The Yoga Anatomy Coloring Book Pose by Pose. Practice the pose after coloring. This is our back bend, but also a metaphor for how you are about to bridge from this challenge to your next bold move.

  3. Finally, read aloud the cueing for this pose from pages 260-264 of The Yoga Bible. Notice that there are several variations presented here.

Bonus: Try a restorative bridge by putting a block under your sacrum.

Extra credit: Try this body scan meditation.

My Journal Entry from Day Fourteen:

From One Simple Thing:

  • Body Scan meditations lay bare how much my mind can wander during a meditative practice. I often get distracted before I even get halfway up the body. I downloaded Jon Kabat-Zinn's meditation app and tried his bodyscape meditation. I enjoy his voice and manner.

From today's yoga class:

  • Key Words: Independent

  • Today I wanted to end the two weeks with my own home practice. Habitually, I sequence the standing warrior poses after a few vinyasas. Today, I also spent some time in half-moon which really makes me aware of my spine and hips. Then, I went to the ground and practiced bridge pose before shavasana. I wouldn't say that this practice was very different than how I practiced at the beginning of the challenge, but my awareness of my breath and my anatomy had been transformed.
